Community and Industry Partnerships and Investment Projects

Gwydir Valley Irrigators

This is a partnership between the NWLLS, Gwydir Valley Irrigators and the Cotton Growers Association. The project aims to provide extension and engagement opportunities to promote a sustainable and healthy production system in the Gwydir Valley. The project will deliver outcomes directly for the local agricultural industry with a focus on dry land and irrigated cotton growers, with growers having a direct input through both the Gwydir Valley Irrigators Association and the Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association. This project will also directly link with the GVIA's Grower-led Research Program in the Gwydir Valley as funded by the Cotton Research and Development Corporation until June 2015.locations in the North West and involves educating community and industry about good sustainability practices leading to better environmental outcomes.

Tamworth Regional Landcare Association

A partnership between NW LLS and Tamworth Regional Landcare Association to improve sustainable farming practices at the grass roots level.  This project will undertake 6 workshops across the region which demonstrates to the community how land managers can participate in sustainable agriculture, promote biodiversity and apply best practice NRM principles.

Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service

A partnership between NW LLS and the WAMS to improve Aboriginal community health through better practices in local horticulture production.  This project will improve facilities and practices at the existing garden site in Walgett and involves educating community on good horticulture practices leading to better health outcomes.

Feral Scan Smart Phone Application

A partnership between NW LLS, the Invasive Animal CRC and the Department of Primary Industries to improve spatial reporting of feral animal species through the improvement of smart phone applications.  This project brings together several NSW Local Land Services who are providing grass roots consultation, investment and on ground technical assistance for the development of smartphone applications.

Gunnedah Community Heritage and Environmental Education and Engagement

A partnership between NW LLS and Gunnedah Urban Landcare Association to increase community awareness of the local environment, its beauty, worth and treats and to lead to increased membership of GULG and volunteers involved in community and environmental projects through improved community knowledge regarding endangered and threatened local flora and fauna.  It will also lead to improved community understanding of and empathy with local Aboriginal heritage and history and connection to the land. 

Sustainable North West

A partnership between NW LLS and Tamworth Regional Landcare Association to improve the community's knowledge about sustainable practices in building, farming and everyday life.  This project will showcase and demonstrate sustainable practices across several locations in the North West and involves educating community and industry about good sustainability practices leading to better environmental outcomes.

Barwon Learning Centre

A partnership between NWLLS and the BLC to involve and educate Aboriginal youth in the collection and propagation of native plants in the NW of NSW.  The project is facilitating the passing of  traditional ecological knowledge to youth who will apply the knowledge in practical setting which and protect and conserve traditional resources.

Toomalah Cemetery Upgrade

A partnership between NW LLS, TAFE NEI, and the Toomalah LALC  to protect and conserve land in and around the Toomalah cemetery site.  This project will deliver NRM training to member s of the Aboriginal community who will use these skills to upgrade and maintain the cemetery site in Toomalah.

Terry Hie Hie Cemetery Upgrade

A partnership between NW LLS, OEH, and the Terry Hie Hie LALC to protect and conserve land in and around the Terry Hie Hie cemetery site.  This project will provide resources to member s of the Aboriginal community who will use these skills to upgrade and maintain the cemetery site in Terry Hie Hie using NRM best practice.

Walford Walking Track (Dharriwaa Elders Group)

A partnership between NW LLS and DEG to Improve a traditional ecological knowledge walking track in Walgett.  This project will provide resources to member s of the Dharriwaa Aboriginal community who will upgrade and maintain the track to world class standards and showcase the regions diverse and traditional ecological knowledge.

Dryland Cotton Growers Alliance (DCGA)

A partnership between the dryland cotton growers in the major cotton valleys - Gwydir, Namoi, and Macquarie will be coordinated into satellite groups and individual satellite groups will identify local issues that are "constraining" dryland cotton cropping systems.  The groups will discuss issues and appropriate research affecting the farming system and identify and present these back to NW LLS, GVIA, CRDC, CGA's, CSD and GRDC.

North West Regional Landcare Facilitator

A partnership between NW LLS and New England North West Landcare Chairs to coordinate and provide local community support for Landcare in the North West.  The project provides several regional Landcare facilitators located in strategic locations to plan and conduct local workshops which focus on land management issues generated from the local communities.

North West Environmental Educator Network

This is a partnership between the NWLLS and the Murray Darling Basin Authority.  The aim of this project is to improve the skills, knowledge and attitudes of students and our future land managers by developing the skills of their teachers and non-teaching educators. To achieve this a partnership has been developed between Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) and North West LLS.  Through this partnership the North West LLS will draw on its extensive network of educators and school based staff to provide activities which align with NRM and sustainable land practices.
