Spring Plague Locust Hatching
11 September 2015
North West LLS Biosecurity Officers have confirmed the hatching of plague locusts within the region. With soil temperatures increasing, further hatchings are expected. North West Local Land Services is asking landholders to be on the lookout for plague locust hatchings.
"Despite favorable seasonal conditions across much of the North West we are asking landholders to inspect their properties and report the presence of plague locusts.
"No matter how small the size of the hatching, please report it. It is crucial to implement a control program when plague locusts are banding. It is the most effective stage for control," said Team Leader, Invasive Species, Jackie Barker .
Landholders in the areas of Narrabri, Moree, Burren Junction and north of Gunnedah around Maules Creek are asked to remain particularly vigilant, as these are areas with a high probability of emerging plague locusts in the weeks ahead.
If you detect the presence of plague locusts on your property please contact the North West Local Land Services on the dedicated Locust Report Line: 0417907151.
Otherwise, contact your nearest North West LLS office.
